With the weather cooling off we are beginning to have condensation on the windows and I have to crank the heater to remove it.
Keep in mind we are trying to run on 480w of Solar Power...
The question now becomes should we get a dehumidifier for $200ish or a heater for $50ish?
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated as we are buying something today!
We tried to buy a dehumidifier yesterday but were unable to find anything reasonable and now I think a heater would be better as the furnace truly only heats the bedroom, just not enough of it pumps through to the main living area to keep the windows clear overnight.
I will be inquiring about this next week at the dealership. In the meantime, I am running on the assumption that its simply a summer RV and blah blah blah...
Any thoughts or suggestions from some not-so-newbies would be greatly appreciated.
We always leave our kitchen window open about an inch, make sure vent fan is running when showering and cooking. We have double pane windows so that also eliminates condensation on our windows year round. Other than the windshield in our coach.

DeleteOf all our friends in RVing, I have never heard of someone getting a dehumidifier. We open windows a little too. Also, you should be getting more heat in living area. Have that checked out. Maybe a kink in the line. We always use a portable heater when we can. The furnace is too loud for me.

DeleteThank you all for your comments. I tried Google and couldn't find anything other than dehumidifiers so i was really confused and thought I was missing something. It was nice to know that a heater was a viable option prior to buying one. I actually bought 2, now here's hoping the solar can support it (at least 1) with the CPAP. I figure 12.6 AH + 1.27 * 8 hrs is around 100AH so here's hoping it works... I actually bought an oscillating tower for the main area and a countertop ceramic for the bdrm in case we can avoid the furnace overheating us.. not sure what we'll do about the bedroom right now but for $20 I couldn't resist it.
ReplyDeleteWe do have a dehumidifier and use it if we are staying in the Pacific Wet North for any length of time and plugged in. On rainy days I get almost a gallon of water collected per day. For every gallon of propane you use you put a gallon of water into the air. For dry camping and in low humidity places ... like south USA we use a big buddy heater with a hose we run through our slide to a 20lb propane tank outside and crack a window. We find it far more efficient for heat than the 2 furnaces our coach has and this heater uses no power. The other thing is it is easier to get the propane tank filled than to move the coach. If you stay in Vernon you probably will not need a dehumidifier just if you stay in the Vancouver area. Friends of ours when they started out full-time RVing in a trailer found that without double paned windows their clothes in the closet actually started to mould with the moisture. So if you continuously get moisture build up you may have to have a dehumidifyer. Hope this helps.(Also if it rains and is cloudy ... solar panels do not help you.)
