A chill St. Pat's Day

After watching the spiral that was Monday, we stayed mostly around the RV today. With the rules changing seemingly every hour on the hour, its almost an advantage to already be Q'd... who can keep track?! Gheesh, the world is a very different place than it was just a week ago. What will it be like in 30 days, 60 - 90?!

Big Brother Canada contestants were in their own isolation without any knowledge of any of this since they were 'put in' the house before the end of Feb... they were apparently told about the situation today. The world may well be unrecognizable to them when the show is over.

This news story just came out tonight: Feds look to invoke the Emergencies Act to combat COVID-19 and in tomorrow's joint news announcement I expect they will be closing the borders to all but essentials.

My dad and his fiance sure timed their cruise well, just a day or so before they disembarked was when the 1st cruise ship was quarantined.... they managed to tour the cays before flying home to Windsor and I'm thankful to say that was a couple/3 weeks ago so they are clear of that at least. Although it gives me great concern that they live in a highrise 55+ condo complex... but there is only so much you can do, and they are taking precautions.

If you have not, stock up now. Shelter in place will be rolled out likely Wednesday or Thursday. This will impede any movement. Essentially 'Martial Law'.

Happy belated St. Patrick's Day Everyone... even if it was cancelled...

With the truck finished and the Jeep returned to its usual parking space, we needed to tidy up our outdoor living space.

All tidied up and rearranged to take the best advantage of what is still a winter's sun there is another sunnier spot but it is just outside our little spot and I'm still considering that option and watching it for amount of sun, etc.

Everyone parked in their respective proper places once again

Our back garden forest

We did take Robbie for a walk yesterday (Monday) afternoon and I intended to take pictures but as we were walking out the door I realized that all of our electronics had been drained by the spiral that was Monday - and needed to recharge so I chose to recharge them all rather than try to get 1 picture when I was at 12% before I even left home. This is why there was no new blog this am (Tuesday). Remember, I am writing in the evenings now and scheduling the posts for 4am PST the following morning. Hence, it is Tuesday 940pm PST as I write this.

Our temperatures are expected to rise this week with some rain predicted for next week. I have quite a few plants to sort out tomorrow as roots are overwhelming the pods already in garlic, green onions and peas and 'they' say we are past overnight below 0C temps so its time to get them in bigger pots.

I will try to keep something charged for our walk tomorrow.

Walkies and Garden start and Covid 19

I've been sleeping in lately -- like until almost 9 some days... I hate that,  it makes me lazy so I decided to change it. Time to walk to town. As most know, Brad has his morning coffee at home and then later in the morning goes to town for his 2nd cup. This gave me a great opportunity to walk to town and get a ride back up... turns out its 3 miles - one way. I called Brad just as I was about to enter the downtown area to make his way in and then my phone died. So my AllTrails track of my walk stopped at the spot just shy of downtown - where I called him from. I still logged 3 miles in 58 min though, with stops totaling 3 min. So its an hours brisk walk to town. I fully anticipate having to pay for that Wednesday walk on Friday...

A house along the main road on Salt Spring has a wooden Stonehenge so I stopped to get a decent photo of it.

Decending the hill to downtown about 5 min before my phone died.

I began my planting preparations, according to a whatsit I saw on Pinterest, this is the best way to grow without seeds so I thought I'd give it a try. All of these are organic (which is our preference) and so will regrow as opposed to the cheap stuff which cannot be grown from the seeds in them -- if they even have seeds in them. On that note, I purchased a bag of organic lemons and a bag of limes - the lemons have seeds in them but the limes do not leading me to believe they are in fact, not organic.

Soak carrots in 1/4" water to sprout then plant

Romaine, soak in water - 2 days growth there already - then plant.
Ginger, soak 1 day then plant
Garlic, soak 3 days then plant

Here I have Dill, Thyme, Basil, Parsley and 2 rows of Sweet Peas

Lemons, soak in wet paper towel until sprout, then plant

I'll keep you posted on how they progress.

Apparently, 'they' are now saying that Coronavirus (Co-vid 19) is uncontainable now and will have to run its course through the population... so today I think we'll be making a plan for this eventuality. Sure hope it doesn't mess up our travel plans but time will tell.

I can't help but note that for several months -mostly in the US, the kids (grown kids and the most likely to survive an issue) were dying from a breathing related illness caused (apparently) by vaping. We had no such troubles -- I stopped vaping mid December and remain free of smoking and vaping but Brad struggled with the no vaping and has returned to it at 2mg/L -- extremely low dose.

Anyway, a few months ago the vaping problem faded out and now this Coronavirus breathing related illness thing has developed in China where they are -coincidentally I'm sure- slowly taking over from the US economically.  It just makes me wonder.... is all. Surely I'm not the only one to make that connection.

Walk with Roh, Frozen and Solar Management

Went for a walk with Roh yesterday morning. She has a route that she takes and it manages to cover almost every square inch of asphalt and dirt path in the resort. Had a great time talking, I was very comfortable keeping up to her pace, at least I think I was keeping up to her pace, a little concerned that I was slowing her down because usually she jogs but yesterday was a walk.

It has been ages since I walked any significant distance and we did 4 miles yesterday so I was damn sure I'd be feeling that this morning, but so far so good...

Roh and her husband have been living in their RV since 2004 when she thought it would be a good idea to go look at one. When she entered she said, 'you could live in here' and the salesman replied, 'a lot of people do'.... the rest as they say, is history.

The weather is cool here, I can't say cold because - well, we're Canadian and that would just be weak ;) but our water hoses outside froze during the night. The pipes in the rig are fine, just the outside where it attaches to the spigot. We will have to discuss getting a heated hose but I'm just not sure how to do that when we have 3 seperate hose sections - spigot to filter, filter to softener and softener to rig. I will be looking into that this morning.

The sun is out now and hitting right at the hoses so it won't be long and they should melt and we'll be good to go once again. Not sure this will happen in sufficient time for my PickleBall beautification process, but I will be monitoring it - my public awaits LOL Might just go to the site showers this morning.

Brad also took Robbie for quite the walk yesterday, we are aware that this small rig is confining for him when it's cold like this outside. He is certainly excited to get to Grandma's house in April!

I should also mention, mostly so that I don't forget over the summer, that we have learned that Aguanga is pronounced Awanga, not Aguanga... I forgot to mention that when we discovered it about 6 weeks ago.

The time has come now for me to organize the RV again. This time in preparation for the trip home. There are a lot of things we will be able to leave behind instead of carrying them back and forth so I'd like to get at that. Also the site storage bins need to be better organized so that all of the seating cushions fit into one bin so that we can leave it unlocked should we decide to rent it out while we are away - not likely but still undecided. The other two bins will be locked.

Because the heat was on all night, our batteries did not fully charge overnight - a first. So I have yet to turn the solar on as I recall them saying they should be fully charged at least once a day. Annoying, but there you have it.

Actually not sure if I mentioned how we manage the solar:
We turn the solar on in the mornings while we are online and puttering around the rig, until around 3 or 4pm when we turn them off and run shore power to allow the sun to recharge them again before sunset, then back on during evening hours while we are again puttering around the rig and off for the overnight to allow them to recharge on the grid. This system allows us to use the grid generally only during off-peak hours.

Of course, this is not a set in stone system, it depends on the weather and cloud cover, but we just received our first bill from this site the other day and once again it was $0. Gotta love Solar! There was some sort of prorate issue something something to do with this billing cycle since we just purchased the lot, so not sure how that will play out on next months bill, but I know that our neighbours were also prorated and theirs was almost $100 if I remember correctly.

Anyway, time to get at the day.... thanks for dropping in and hope you make the most out of your next 24 hours! We... have to go shopping :(
