Meg came for a visit

Brad's Mum came for a visit, I didn't take many pictures though - really just this one when we were over visiting some friends.

The two Margarets.
Meg and Maggie (Joan's dog)

We did a lot of shopping, Meg, my friend Joan and I spent a couple of days gallivanting around the shops in ours and a few surrounding communities. A bit of touring around and generally enjoying the backyard so I didn't think to take too many pics.

We have had a very nice visit the last week or so.

Rain is coming?! Rain is coming!?

'They who never get it right' tell us that there are heavy rains on the way in the coming days. Local oldtimers tell us that it often snows around the May 24 holiday... perhaps 'they' will get it right this time?!

Its been fairly good being here. The town has been fantastic, the meals are much welcome and the local shops are offering discounts to Evacuees - nice touch.

Joan and I went and did some much needed retail therapy. She is having trouble processing what is happening so I think the distraction helps her a lot.

Yesterday, we went to see our Dr about my foot (baby toe, specifically). While I didn't get a prescription for it, she did show me a picture of the sandals I need to get and Brad overheard the convo (which always helps when spending money on shoes). She is sending me for a bone scan because she thinks I may have a hairline crack in the small (Metatarsal) bone portion of my foot.

Today Joan and I are going to shop again for the sandals I tried on yesterday morning which were the very same ones the Dr told me to get (solid wrap around big toe instead of just the sticky-inny-bit that rubs)... go figure. Also there is a local farmer's market and we will throw in a load at the laundromat to do its thing while we shop.

Last night some other friends invited the 4 of us out to their RV park south of town for a game of cards, it was great fun!

Hoping that other than a little bit of shopping there will be no other running around to do and we can relax a little, distractions are good in times like this but its also tiring especially with the stress in the back of your mind.

So far our little community is doing well, fires appear to be diminishing according to the NASA website with satellite imaging, and with the rains on the way, we hope to be home early to mid next week.... fingers crossed.

A new wardrobe

So anyone who knows me knows I have zero patience. Zip, Zero, Zilch.

Hence, shopping.... especially for clothes that are meant to make this body look presentable... Yeah, that's a hard NO....

Stacey took me shopping, I got a bunch of new clothes.. and a pair of sandals to suit it all too.

With all the moving we've done, selling our house, living in an RV for 2.5 years... my wardrobe sucked Bobo to say the least.

So she gave me a style, which I desperately needed and didn't have the gumption to do myself. Foofoo girlie stuff is not my forte - at all.

Now at least I will look presentable, I hope....

Just need the hair done now.

Groceries and a recipe

Okay so I didn't actually DO the shopping, but for the first time since before C-19 I was feeling well enough to go along for the ride as Brad picked up a few groceries....

Looking closely you can see Brad in a mask waiting in line to enter the grocers (above the green car on the left.)

Sanitizing everything before it goes in to our storage locker

This shop was brought on by His Lordship running out of distilled water for his CPAP so if you have to be in there anyway -- make it worth the effort!

Pandemic dinner: Corned Beef Hash!

In an effort to keep the freezer meats holding, we have been making an effort to alternate between canned meats/beans (proteins) and fresh (frozen) meat - this day it was Corned Beef... Dreaded it but it turned out pretty damn good actually, we both had seconds!

Chop beef into small easy to fry bits

Boil up teensy potatoe pieces (a quicker boil keeps humidity down in RV )

With fresh bell pepper, garlic, onion - whatever I had in the fridge.
Quick fryup and then grubs up!
Really tasty.

Note: Do not add salt as corned beef is highly salty already which the potatoes help to mellow.

Dinner with Friends, a movie and a lot of Shopping

Last night we were invited over to Richard and Terri's site for a lovely Barbeque dinner. We've been trying to connect with these two for ages but Terri has been struggling with what she believes to be allergies. Severe congestion has kept her out of sorts for the last month or so.

Finally feeling better they tracked us down and invited us to dinner. Even Robbie was invited which is always nice. Their baby Della is a beautiful German Shepherd and she is 8 years old, just like Robbie. They are not sure if they like each other yet but hopefully next season we will be able to socialize them a bit more and that will change.

Della is sooo cute, she refuses to leave the golf cart and sits out there all day/evening likely waiting for her next ride....

Really enjoyed the steak and sweet potatoe supper and the conversation with them. Before we knew it we realized it was 3 minutes until the resort movie night started. Tempting as it was to forego the movie, we did have other friends who were expecting us there so we dragged ourselves away. Thank you both for the wonderful dinner.

This week's movie was The Shape of Water. Not quite sure what to expect from this movie having heard it was about a woman who falls in love with a fish.... not quite. It won best picture this year apparently and everyone was praising it... We quite enjoyed it. Didn't think we would, but... for what it was, it was pretty damn good. Not our usual kind of movie but we had considered going to see it in Temecula just last week but I didn't want to pay to see it, so when we heard it was playing here for free.... why the hell not?!

Today we decided to drive out to Palm Desert. On the way there we heard an alarm going off. Realizing that is wasn't stopping and had to be us we were very careful but decided to continue on to our destination, especially since we had no cell service to 'google' the problem.

Once we reached Palm Desert and cell service, I found a couple of forums where I discovered that others had experienced this odd alarm. Turns out it seems tied to the turn signal which we had noted when we were driving. When we turned the signal on to pull over the alarm stopped. So we drove along and every 80 seconds or so when the alarm went off we had to hit the turn signal on and off again which shut it up. After replacing the bulb at Wally World, it never happened again. Weird.

We wandered through waaaaaayyyyy too many shops (Brad and Robbie included) looking for some 'California summer' gifts to take home with us for the Grandkids. I am not a 'shopper', I'm a get in, get what you need and get out kind of shopper so gifts are very difficult for me. Never did find anything... well, actually Brad picked up a pair of white lounging pants... that won't last 5 minutes I guarantee. Between the coffee spills and not changing to do work around the house..... 5 minutes is probably a stretch. We shall see.

Deciding to stop for dinner out tonight, we went to Temecula for Vietnamese, one of our favourites. The drive to Temecula from Palm Springs/Desert area is reaaaaallllllyyyy far. About 1.5 hours (in a car).... a try to stay awake kind of drive. But the winds in Palm Springs beside the bazillion wind towers is crazy windy. Quite the wind tunnel you have to drive through - perfect spot for a wind farm for sure. The passenger window was actually bulging outwards and I was having to hang on to it for fear it would break in the winds... It is only held on to the window frame with velcro so I was quite afraid it would not hold, but it did - easily.

Our little 4 cylinder was having trouble holding 50mph but we didn't feel so bad since the rest of the traffic wasn't doing much better with the head wind as strong as it was.

Anyway, we finally made it home after a long day of shopping adventures. Next week we're going to go to Oceanside, we saw a lot of stores there that had nice gifts for the Grandkids.

9 days to go before heading north.
